Promising Swansea Plumber Scoops Award

A Swansea plumber has been awarded the prestigious CITB Trade Apprentice of the Year award at the annual NPTC Group of Students Colleges' Student Awards 2015.

Joe Jones, from Morriston, has been completing his apprenticeship in plumbing over the last two years with Hale Homes, which is also where his mother Ruth Jones works. His apprenticeship was offered through NPTC Group College, which he attends once a week as part of his course. Prior to his apprenticeship, Joe went to school in Cwmtawe and went straight into his apprenticeship from there.

Speaking about his award, Joe said: "It is an honour to be awarded the CITB Trade Apprentice of the Year award. I have always wanted to be a plumber so to win this award is amazing and gives me confidence for my career moving forward.

"The support I have received from both NPTC and Hale Homes has been amazing and I want to thank them for helping me throughout my apprenticeship."

Joe is currently working throughout all of Hale Homes' developments, including Bethany Lane in West Cross, Poplars Drive in Skewen, and social housing schemes in Morriston and Britton Ferry.

Jonathan Hale, managing director of Neath-based family company Hale Homes, said: "I want to congratulate Joe on winning the CITB Trade Apprentice of the Year award. He is very hard working on site and has been a great addition to the Hale Homes team. We are confident that he will continue to do well in his apprenticeship and believe he has a bright future as a plumber ahead of him."

Joe was presented his award at the NPTC Group of Students Colleges' Awards held at Swansea University's Great Hall earlier this month. The event was hosted by Mr Go Compare himself, Wynne Evans and was attended by over 200 individuals, including students and staff members from across the College's 10 campuses.
